Post Surgery

Elective or emergency surgery is a situation in which acupuncture can be very helpful.  Surgery is a type of trauma induced in a controlled setting.  As with any trauma, there is swelling, bruising, pain, and often loss of function, of which acupuncture and herbal medicine, taken internally or applied topically, can be extremely helpful.

Many people inadvertently become addicted to pain medications after back or knee surgery. Others are intolerant to pain medications due to GI distress. By working with patients closely following surgery, acupuncture is often able to circumvent these situations and in some cases is the only option in reducing recovery pain.
