Infertility
Because the ancient Chinese were consumed with ensuring a heir to the Emperor, the early study of gynecology and infertility is well-documented. They created effective herbal formulas and point protocols for infertility, and had a clear understanding of its various patterns, consistent with our modern-day knowledge that there are several main reasons for infertility. Besides their extensive research and interest in the issue, the ancient Chinese were never able control the sex of the child!
One of the most profound examples of the harmonious and efficacious merging of Eastern and Western medicine is in the field of infertility. A study published in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine reported that women receiving acupuncture treatments before and after in vitro fertilization (IVF) had an embryo implantation success rate of 42 percent. This is significantly higher than the control group (26%). Obtaining an acupuncture treatment after receiving IVF (in vitro fertilization) can improve your chances of the fertilization turning into a pregnancy by 42%. In other words, acupuncture nearly doubles the chances that the IVF will take.
Many doctors who truly care about their patients and are privy to this research have licensed acupuncturists whom they refer to. Some clinics even have an acupuncturist on-site to perform the acupuncture, as the acupuncture has to quickly follow the IVF procedure. |
